EVENT: Scientists, engineers, social scientists, and humanists around the world—many of them at colleges and universities—use advanced digital resources and services every day. Things like supercomputers, collections of data, and new tools are critical to the success of those researchers, who use them to make our lives healthier, safer, and better. XSEDE (Extreme Science Engineering and Discovery Environment) integrates these resources and services, makes them easier to use, and helps more people use them.
Researchers, scientists and innovators from around the world are gathering in Miami from July 17 to 21, 2016, for XSEDE16, an annual conference that showcases the innovations, challenges, achievements, and breakthrough discoveries that are changing the world.
As part of the Student Engagement Program, XSEDE16 welcomes educators, students, parents, and the general public to tour the Visualization Gallery, which will be located in the main lobby of the hotel. Visitors will learn about the modeling, simulations, data analytics, and visualizations that help us make sense of complex and enormous quantities of information, leading to discoveries that are improving our lives every day. Learn how professionals across various disciplines including computer science, social science, life science, physical science, and humanities are working together to explore:
- A detailed glimpse into the processes and evolution of a hurricane over a 6-day period
- A simulation of two orbiting black holes
- How coral reef ecosystems can repopulate each other after bleaching events
- Insight into Alzheimer’s Disease
WHO MAY ATTEND: The event is open to educators, students, parents, and the general public.
WHEN: The Visualization Gallery is open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon on Thursday.
