Michael Fernandez

Advisors   Gecheng Zha, PhD | Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Mahsa Mirzargar, PhD  | Computer Science

Anchen Sun University of Miami Center for Computational Science CCS Fellow 2017-2018

Anchen Sun

Advisors   Mohammed Iskandarani, PhD | Department of Ocean Sciences
William M. Drennan, PhD | Department of Ocean Sciences
Burton Rosenburg, PhD | Computer Science

Project  Anchen’s project revolves around the numerical solution of the shallow-water equations on high-performance computers. He is focused on identifying the bottlenecks in the code’s performance—whether in CPU-bound or memory-bandwidth bound—and suggesting improvements.

Michael Durante University of Miami Center for Computational Science CCS Fellow 2017-2018

Michael Durante

Advisors   J. William Harbour, MD |  Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
Stephan Schürer, PhD | CCS Drug Discovery Program

Project  Michael’s project focuses on the epigenetic characterization of BAP1-mutant Uveal Melanoma (UM), which is one of the most frequently metastasizing tumors. Advanced mathematical modeling and novel computational algorithms will be utilized to analyze the next-generation sequencing datasets to uncover any epigenetic mechanisms involved in UM metastasis.
