“She Innovates Tech”—a collaboration between CCS and CODeLLA—aims to inspire girls in Miami-Dade County between the ages of 9 and 17 to become next-generation innovators, problem solvers, and digital creators. This event is intended to build their skill sets and their confidence, while inspiring and encouraging them to pursue STEM education and careers. According to code.org, Florida had only 2,114 computer science graduates in 2014, of which, only 19% were women. Also, the percentage of female computer science majors in the US decreased 19% in 2016.
The event will feature an App showcase of the top ten teams from local middle and high schools, who will present their pitch decks solving healthcare problems for the elderly population in our community. The She Innovates Tech App competition began on September 14th and ends on October 19th. Teams interested in participating must register to participate. Please visit shetech.miami for more information. The submitted app pitch decks will be reviewed by app developers, designers and project managers who have expertise in app development. The winning middle- and high-school teams will have their apps built out and put on the mobile app marketplace for launch in March 2017.
The event will be held on Saturday, October 29th, from 9:00AM to 5:30 PM on the UM campus at the Shalala Student Center Complex, 1330 Miller Drive (3rd floor Grand Ballroom), Coral Gables, FL 33146.
